What non-citizens should know about legalized marijuana

As of January 1, 2020 Illinois is the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana for adult use. However, state legalization of recreational marijuana does not change the fact that marijuana is still considered Schedule 1 illegal substance under the Controlled Substances Act. It is still a federal offence to possess marijuana, and immigration is part of federal law. Thus, non-citizens must not use marijuana, possess marijuana, or participate in the newly legalized marijuana industry.

Please see the attached fact sheet for more information regarding non-citizens and legalized marijuana.
